We spent the next couple of days at a campground in southern Indiana, where we rested and baked! We made a box oven and enjoyed freshly baked cupcakes, corn muffins, brownies, and biscuits. We saw deer, squirrels, frogs, and woodchucks would come out looking for food scraps we might have dropped. It was a really nice break except for the mosquitoes thinking we were a gourmet buffet.

Heading west again, we came to Springfield, Illinois. We stopped for dinner at the Cozy Dog Drive-In where they invented the corn dogs. We had a couple of cozy dogs, and we really enjoyed them!
We toured the Lincoln Museum and Library for several hours the next morning. It covered his life from birth to death, his family, and presidency in detail, as well as the political criticisms he dealt with. It was very well presented with dioramas and we really enjoyed it.
After the museum we drove by the Old State Capitol building where Lincoln gave his memorable "House Divided Speech".
For lunch we had a deluxe Horseshoe sandwich, a local Illinois specialty. It is a piece of Texas toast covered in ground beef, fries, bacon, grilled onions, and smothered in a special cheese sauce. A little bit of heaven!
Keeping our eye on the approach of Isaac, we decided to spend the weekend in a motel to wait for clear weather again. So we camped out in our room for 2 days watching TV, and working on our scrapbooks and blog....... while it rained and poured, with tornado watches, thunder, and hail ......
