Adventures on "The Cape"
With the rainy weather clearing a bit, we decided to spend a day at Cape Cod. I was amazed at the woods along the way. I expected to see nothing but sand dunes, bushes and grasses on Cape Cod, but the woods are thick here too.
We drove to Coast Guard Beach and walked from the parking lot over the grass covered sand dune to our first look at the Atlantic Ocean waves breaking on the beach. We were thrilled to walk out to the freezing water and put our feet in it! We were laughing and enjoying having made it to the other side of the continent and the overwhelming feelings of touching the Atlantic Ocean.
After playing on the beach, we drove on to Nauset Light Beach to see the Lighthouse there. This is one of their most famous ones, and the one on their license plates representing Cape Cod.
Then we drove on to Marconi Beach and the Marconi Station Site and saw the lighthouse there.
Next we stopped at Race Point Beach, where the ocean meets the bay.
Then we headed into Provincetown. We drove to the center of town and parked by the pier. We walked around a bit looking at all the shops, and finally stopped at a restaurant for dinner. We had a seafood feast of shrimp pasta, stuffed clams, fried clam strips, and fish, shrimp, and scallop cakes with lobster.
We drove by the Pilgrim Monument which we had seen since Coast Guard Beach, it is so tall.
We had a great time exploring, and at the end of the day, we were tired and happy.
