A Day in Sacramento

After spending the night in real beds for the first time in almost a month, we slowly rolled out of bed ready to face a new day. We had a quick breakfast at the hotel and headed to downtown Sacramento.

First, we took the free tour of the capitol building. It was impressive with all the portraits of the past governors in the victorian building. To the dismay of the out of state members of our tour group, the portrait of Arnold Schwarzenegger was not on display yet.

Since we saw where the governor works, we headed to the Governor's Mansion. We were given a private tour of all but the top floor, which is being renovated. The display of all the first ladies who had lived there was impressive, as were the many rooms of the house. Who knew we would find hot pink shag carpeting?!

That afternoon, we headed to the California State Railroad Museum. It was a blast! We climbed on actual train cars, played with the toy trains, and admired the artifacts and memorabilia from the old railroad companies. They even had all the china unique to each rail line. This was definitely a great experience.

It was snack time! There was a little place nearby selling "worldly fries." They had french fries with various toppings representing different countries. If only we could have tried them all! We had the Italian style, which came with garlic and parmesan cheese, and shared a cup of shaved ice.

After a fun day, we headed to the campground in Vacaville for our first night in the tent! We set up camp and had a delicious Spaghetti dinner. We were greeted by some of the friendly campers while we ate. We settled into the tent for the night all bundled up. It was cold! I lasted the whole night in the tent, while mom got up and went into the car around midnight. When we got up and checked the temperature it was 36 degrees at 7am!

Today, we head west.
